Betsy Levar is an illustrator living and working out of Duluth, MN—a small city on the shores of Lake Superior. She has one goofy husband, two goofy children, and a goofy puppy.

Betsy spent her young adult life collecting degrees. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing/Painting from The College of Visual Arts in 2007, then added a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of St. Scholastica in 2015. Hospice has been Betsy’s nursing specialty for the past four years, and the subject of death and dying has informed the content of some of her personal work. The stories and experiences of her patients were also partly what pushed her back into her art as they are a wonderful reminder to do more of what brings you joy.

In 2022, Betsy completed a mentorship through The Illustration Depart./Giuseppe Castellano, and she has been working toward illustrating full-time since that time.

In her free moments, Betsy likes to obsessively listen to podcasts and tell other people what she learned even though they don’t care. She also likes to play most everything with her children, except the painfully dull game of “pretend dinos”. Her favorite pastime is cleaning up potty accidents of all kinds (children, patients, puppy) —and not sleeping through the night.
